Free, fresh food for all — thanks to you
Located beside the Malton Community Centre from August to October, the Community Market’s purpose is to bring fresh, healthy food to neighbours who would otherwise go without, either because of the sky-high cost, or because grocery stores are few and far between in their neighbourhood.
Thanks to caring people like you, neighbours can stroll to the Community Market and choose the nourishing groceries they need to care for themselves and their loved ones.
Over the 2023 Market season, 1,300 households accessed 7+ days’ of fresh fruits, vegetables, grains, and other healthy options—all told, a whopping 92,321 pounds of nutritious food!
You’re giving dignity and choice
What makes this program so unique is neighbours can ‘shop’ for what they need for their household that week. A big part of the Community Market is choice— giving neighbours the dignity and self-reliance of selecting what’s best for their families.
For neighbours like Noor*, the Community Market is so welcome and needed.
“I would like to say that we are truly grateful… on behalf of those who have a similar voice to me. I’m really grateful for the support for those in need, and those who are coming as newcomers and struggling,” she shares.
