About the role

Sort food to prepare for its distribution to neighbours in need through Food Banks Mississauga’s network of 60+ agency members across the city. Build valuable experience and skills while making a difference in your community.

Responsibilities

  • Sort food donations according to best before dates, package integrity, and food type to prepare them to be distributed to neighbours through our network, and inspect and package food donations to ensure they meet health and safety requirements.

  • Build, pack, label, scan, and stack food boxes, and recycle packaging materials, bale cardboard, etc.

  • Clean up the food sorting area with fellow volunteers at the end of the shift.

Qualifications

Children who want to volunteer must be at least 9 years old and be accompanied by an adult. Any youth volunteers 14 years of age and older are able to volunteer independently if they choose.
Able to manually lift up to 20-40 lbs; you're encouraged to ask for a helping hand as needed!
Able to be active for 2-4 hours.
Volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes such as boots or running shoes.
Important Consideration: For those with food allergies, please be advised you will be potentially exposed to all types of food.

2.5-3 hours per shift

Flexible commitment, with up to 2 shifts per week
